Taking Action | CAEF Bulletin, August 20, 2024

Raise Your Voice! Silence is Complicity!

CAEF urges all who care about the Jewish community, Israel and democracy to speak up, act, sign petitions, show up at rallies, write and talk with your elected officials and support our actions and others online.

This CAEF Bulletin has a few actions that need your support.

CRA Exhibits Double Standard

On August 10, over Shabbat, Jewish National Fund (JNF) Canada learned that its charitable status had been revoked despite court proceedings currently underway. Please join us in calling on Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of National Revenue responsible for the CRA, and other MPs from all parties, to intervene on behalf of JNF Canada. We are requesting the government withdraw its revocation and allow JNF to pursue their legal right to appeal in court. Send a message to Ottawa by clicking below.

JNF Canada needs your help now more than ever. Please send a message to Ottawa using this link.

Stop Calls for the Intifada on Stage in Toronto

Read Dahlia Kurtz in True North and then tell Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and Scotiabank that an intifada supporter as entertainment is neither entertaining nor acceptable; it is fuelling hatred, divisiveness, lies and antisemitism. Call it out!

Read an excerpt: “The same Toronto venue that wouldn’t allow people to wear FREE OUR HOSTAGES hoodies on its premises, is now welcoming an artist calling to globalize the intifada. That artist is Kehlani.”

Kehlani calls for an intifada with her music video beginning “Long live the intifada.” She celebrates the slaughter of 1,200 on October 7, never calls for the release of the hostages or acknowledges Hamas is a terrorist entity. She would not survive a day in Gaza or under the PA, not because of an IDF attack, but because her whole persona is anathema to radical Islamism. She is a terrible model of indecent hate and she should not be presented to a Toronto audience.

CAEF’s Brief on Public Order Policy Consultation

CAEF submitted a brief at the link below to the Toronto Police Services Board in response to its call for submissions: “The policing of protests, demonstrations and occupations poses a complex and delicate challenge, as the Toronto Police Service (Service) is required to respect the constitutional rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly of all people, while also ensuring community safety and preserving the peace. Due to the unique complexity and considerable public interest in this matter, the Board is seeking the public’s input on the overriding principles and key elements that should be a part of this policy.”

Stop Ideological Indoctrination in Ontario Schools

CAEF is working with several education advocacy groups that oppose the inclusion of geopolitics in the classroom. We recognize that today’s critical race theory (CRT) is divisive, exclusionary, and non-evidence based. It leads to increasing not decreasing racism and antisemitism, categorizing all people by race, ignoring culture, skills and abilities, and even personal preferences in determining everything from labour market engagement to athletic and academic performance. The education systme is increasingly using diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to exclude various groups, especially those of European background, Jews and those deemed “white adjacent” (as if the latter even means anything.)

CAEF is supporting this petition to Hon. Jill Dunlop, Minister of Education, urging her to require boards of education to focus on the Ontario curriculum, ban geopolitical activism and hold school boards to accountability measures.

Israel Rejoicing—24 Years of Love and Support

On August 18, Pastor Teck Uy, his wife and the entire community at the Friends of Jesus Christ Church in Scarborough, welcomed Jews and non-Jews to an annual program of song, dance and prayers. This lovely and lively congregation is located in a somewhat remote part of Scarborough, far from the madding crowd. It is not in a residential or even populated area, but on a quiet business street. However, the boisterous, hate-filled anti-Jewish mob managed to call up a swarm of the usual kaffiyeh- and mask-adorned ranters, drum beaters, sign holders and enraged chanters who attempted first to storm the building, then to outshout the program, disrupt traffic (of which there was little) and generally be the offending nuisance that demonstrates their leftist-Islamist lies.

Dozens of police were on hand and kept coming for the better part of an hour so security eventually looked like it outnumbered the maniacal mob. Those who attended loved the enthusiasm, energy, care and compassion offered by the performers and speakers, who included Donna Holbrook, national director of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, Canada.

Unfortunately, given the many online threats and the tenor of the rhetoric promoted by the gang who organized the protest, Idit Shamir, the consul general of Israel for Toronto and Western Canada, felt it necessary to cancel her appearance. This might signal a success to the Jew haters but in fact, more Jews attended this year than in the recent past and renewed and extended our relationship with this wonderful community.

Whether acknowledging Israel’s 75 year history and achievements in 2023 or reporting on the Israel-Hamas war and the truth of Islamist threats and challenges across the Middle East, the National Post has produced timely and accurate coverage.

CAEF Commends Those Who Withdrew from Capital Pride Events

After the organizers of the upcoming Ottawa Pride Parade issued a statement that messaged anti-Israel sentiment, we are gratified to learn that many have pulled out of the Capital Pride event. This includes the Liberal Party of Canada, Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, The Ottawa Hospital, the German Embassy, the US Embassy,  the Jewish Federation of Ottawa and its community partners, and many public servants.

We thank those who demonstrated integrity and urge all corporate and community agencies, individuals and sponsors to also withdraw from an event that seeks to isolate and vilify Israel with negative implications for the Jewish community.

Send a message to the Mayor and the Prime Minister to thank them for their moral stance.

CAEF Stands with the Hindu Community, Opposes Hinduphobia

Shockingly and increasingly, there are examples of hatred towards Hindus in Canada. Just as the Jewish community has experienced an onslaught of hatred following the massacre of October 7, 2023 in Israel, Hindu Canadians are seeing hatred flourish since the beginning of  terrorism against their community in Bangladesh but a few weeks ago. This is outrageous. Where is our government and media?

Read the letter from our ally, the Coalition of Hindus of North America to Concordia University, sent to stop an anti-Hindu event, which did take place, excluding Hindu students and leading to an injury to one.
