Dear Chair Carroll and Board Member Cheng:
I am writing to urge you to reconsider your decision to not include an agenda item regarding the political impartiality of the Toronto Police Service at the upcoming April 10 meeting of the Toronto Police Services Board
In your communication to me from last Friday, you mentioned that the incident involving a podcast involving two police officers was a human resources matter that could not be addressed at a Board meeting.
The incidents where the impartiality of the TPS is thrown into question go way beyond the conduct of two individual officers.
Based on what occurred this weekend, respected commentators such as Caryma Sa'd are challenging the impartiality of the TPS.
Ms. Sa'd has been covering political demonstrations in Toronto for several years. She has been to hundreds of them. She is a practicing lawyer and is making very serious allegations.
It's no use pretending this is not happening or trying to sweep it under the rug. The problem won't go away by itself. The public has the right to be heard on this vital issue that is affecting the reputation and credibility of the Police Service as a whole.
The Police Services Board needs to get actively involved.
Respectfully,
R. Michael Teper.
