Re: Can America's Special Relationship With Israel Survive? How Gaza Has Accelerated the Social and Political Forces Driving the Countries Apart, By Dahlia Scheindlin. May 23, 2024

Dear Editor,
It is only partially the Gaza war that is fracturing the relationship between Israel and the USA. Years ago, Arab countries realizing that they could not defeat Israel militarily, decided to wage a cognitive war on Israel. To do this, they donated $6.5 billion to American universities, to among other projects, establish centers of Mideast studies that they felt could be the Trojan Horse to delegitimize Israel. The purpose was to influence America's future leaders to oppose the existence of Israel. This was assisted by negative information about Israel provided by Pro-Hamas journalists and UN officials. The Hamas-Israel war, thanks to the disinformation, has now become Israel's war on Gaza. Student demonstrations around the globe reveal that the strategy has worked.
Many Democrats need to oppose Israel to stay in office. This political mine field presents a huge problem for President Biden who is trying to satisfy both sides, neither satisfactorily.
