Letter from Doris Epstein, Toronto to the National Post re Gaza immigrants and Canada’s failure to fulfill pledge to Yezidis

Re: Few Canadians have faith in screening of Gaza refugees: poll

August 29, 2024

Dear Editor;

Despite the shocking failure of our immigration officials to screen out terrorists and war criminals from entering Canada , the government is planning to take in 5000 Gazans, people brainwashed from childhood by Hamas and UNRWA schools to hate Jews and call for the genocide of Israel.  Many were complicit in the barbarous attacks on Israel.

In the U.S., Senators are alarmed as expressed in a letter to the US Homeland Security Secretary. Yet, the innocent Yezidi survivors of the 2014 genocide by ISIS are virtually ignored.  In 2016  Ottawa pledged to resettle  ethnic and religious minorities from Iraq, including Yezidis.  Around 1,200 were brought to Canada.  Despite government promises of family reunification, and ongoing pleas from Yezidi and human rights organizations, a mere handful have been allowed to enter Canada.  They languish under deplorable conditions in northern Iraq and in festering DP camps.  With no help forthcoming, their genocide continues.
