Lest We Forget, Let Us Remember Our Values | CAEF Special Bulletin, November 11, 2024

Today Canadians Remember Two World Wars Fought for Freedom. Today the IDF is Fighting to Defend the Same Values and Freedoms for Israel and the West.

We must challenge the lies and narratives that attempt to undermine our values. We must support Israel which is on the frontline against an immoral Islamist driven war against Jews and Western civilization.

Lest We Forget

Is the Pogrom in Amsterdam a Prelude to what’s to come in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Los Angeles..?

Lest we forget, the Nazis with media support, vilified the Jews of Europe. The Nazis ordered the police of Germany and Austria to ignore attacks on Jews and Jewish businesses. The Nazified Germans looked the other way, or celebrated the attacks on their Jewish neighbours. The attacks on Jews and specifically Israelis in Amsterdam, following a football game between Israeli and Dutch teams on November 7 should awaken all Jews and allies to the potential danger of such pogroms being replicated everywhere, everywhere that Jew hatred isn’t being staunched, punished and condemned. Words are NOT enough.

Read IMPACT-se (The Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education) on the warnings given to Dutch authorities in advance of the football match and the connection between an UNRWA teacher and Hamas in organizing the pogrom.

Read Caanan Lidor on the Jewish Press on Europe’s outrage following the Muslim immigrants’ pogrom in Amsterdam.

Read Andrew Mccarthy in the National Review on the Jihad against the Jews and the West.

Anti-Israel Position of Canada’s Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia

CIJA has published its position concerning the federal government’s capitulation to Jew hating groups, and terror-supporting perspectives, such as that expressed by Canada’s Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia.

A policy of Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) is outrageous, and is opposed by Jewish organizations. This is best expressed by CIJA’s CEO, APR is “a term promoted by groups with well-known anti-Jewish agendas, conflates political opinions about Israel with racism, a stance that goes against the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism adopted by the Canadian government and multiple provinces. APR defines even basic expressions of Jewish identity and support for Israel as discriminatory, which is incompatible with Canada’s commitment to human rights and equality.”

CAEF and partners organizations such as Jewish Educators and Families Association (JEFA) have been expressing concerns about the well-orchestrated rise of campaigns to have APR adopted by governments, school boards and other institutions. This flies in the fact of logic, since APR is a new tool in the arsenal of anti-Israelism, intended to quash all support for Jewish identity with Israel, with acknowledging Israel’s right to exist, with challenging the nonsense that there was a Palestinian state before the re-constitution of the Jewish state in our ancient homeland. Suddenly, accepting historical facts can be seen as an expression of racism.

The contrary is true. Accepting narratives without facts, denying history, archaeological evidence and international law, to vilify Israel, IS racist/antisemitism.

Read Shimon Fogel in the National Post on APR.

Read Moral Clarity Newletter article by Nachum Kaplan, entitledPalestinianism is a kind of Islamism”. Here is an excerpt. “Many in the West who say that they are “pro-Palestinian” but against Hamas do not seem to know … or understand that the Palestinian “cause” is an Islamist cause created to destroy Israel and Jews.” Jews are the indigenous people of Israel having lived there for almost four millennia, mostly without sovereignty. Empire after empire colonized the land and subjugated the Jews (and others).”

Advocacy and Action

Government of Canada and the office of Deborah Lyons, Canada’s Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Antisemitism, has just released the Canadian International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Handbook.   This handbook is an important tool in the arsenal for combating Jew hatred. Every government department, public institution and NGO ought to be required to read it and implement steps to educate, monitor and report on any antisemitic behaviours they encounter.

Watch Anthony Housefather MP speak to the Handbook.

Rally for Humanity—Sign the Petition to Canadian MPPs and MPs

Extraordinary speakers promoted truth at interfaith rally, standing up for Canadian values, challenging the takeover of institutions and government by views and values that are antithetical to what we know of Canada. Tolerating the intolerable--hatred, bigotry, jihadism, leftism, antisemitism—was the main topic of the rally, which called for compassion, kindness, justice, truth, unity across all communities and respect for all. In the face of growing antisemitism, racism and anti-Hindu bigotry, all speakers shared a vision of “taking Canada back,” to a kinder time, to shared values, to an expectation that all immigrants and native-born Canadians will live by the 7 principles of our indigenous compatriots who originally welcomed the newcomers to this land. These principles were enunciated by Janet LaForme who spoke on behalf of her husband, Justice Harry Laforme, who is Anishinabe and a member of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation. These 7 principles for moral living are: humility, bravery, honesty, wisdom, truth, respect, and love.

Other speakers included Rabbi Rafi LipnerRaheel Raza, co-founder of the Council of Muslims Against Antisemitism, Rishabh Saraswat, President of the Coalition of Hindus of North America, Warren Kinsella, journalist, Rev. Majed El Shafie, President, One Free World International, Maureen Leshem, community representative, and Justin  Chow, student advocate. Stacey Granovsky of Secure Canada delivered a message from the Global Imam Council.  Dana Levenson, media personality was the emcee.

The rally concluded with a call to action—sign the proclamation to be presented to senior levels of government demanding action to eliminate antisemitism and calling on our leaders to defend Canadians, uphold the rule of law, and fulfill their responsibility to preserve our communities and institutions
