CBC, Purveyor of AntiZionism which is Antisemitism
For some years many people have turned off their radios or reported the false and biased reporting on Canada’s national broadcaster, CBC. It is indefensible, though their Ombudsman and News Editor always defend their bias. CBC repeatedly interviews anti-Israel activists, Gazan-based journalists, pro-Palestinian lawyers and arbiters of Jew hatred. CAEF has repeatedly sent letters of concern to CBC and Honest Reporting Canada catalogues the details of bias on a regular basis. To no avail. Pro Israel, pro-Jewish voices are rarely interviewed, no CBC journalist stands out as unbiased, and the late CBC CEO is famous for her edict declaring that Hamas could not be called a “terrorist” organization.
Now Honest Reporting Canada is calling for a long overdue independent commission to investigate CBC’s anti-Israel bias. CAEF applauds this and urges everyone to sign the petition that is embedded in this story.
Don’t wait. Sign now. Urge friends and family to sign. The demonization of Israel must end. CBC is to reflect a range of opinions but not produce reports that lie about Israel, interviews that are one sided, and even stories that are embarrassingly ignorant such as one a few years ago that claimed humus was Palestinian and Israel had expropriated it.
Safety for Journalists in a Hostile World
The following information was sent to CAEF by a reader and we recommend those producing newsletters, amateur and professional journalists read this:
“The safety of journalists is an important topic that requires special attention, especially in a world where censorship and pressures are increasingly pronounced. While working on a project for the protection and rights of journalists, I came across a useful guide that focuses on digital security and online privacy—an issue that is becoming more significant.
The guide covers all key aspects of journalists’ privacy, including data protection, recommendations for using secure platforms, and tips for online anonymity. Here is the link to the guide."

A Miracle, the Release of Ofer Kalderon
by Shirley Anne Haber, spoken to her congregation, Beth Tikvah, February 8, 2025
Prime Minister David Ben Gurion is known to have commented that to be a realist in Israel, one has to believe in Miracles. Well, last Shabbat (February 1), a miracle happened to my family in Israel.
During Kiddush last Shabbat, you might have heard our president, Barbara Albert, yell out, “Listen up everyone! Hostage, Ofer Kalderon, Shirley Anne’s cousin, has been released!”
To put this in context, many of my family, lived on Kibbutz Nir Oz which backed onto Gaza. My cousin Carmela, a few years younger than me, had helped to found Kibbutz Nir Oz to help build a relationship with the local Palestinians – they used to go to each other’s simchas such as weddings…
However, on Black Shabbat, Oct 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists bulldozed through the wall of their Kibbutz, killing more than one quarter residents, including my Cousin Carmela and her granddaughter Noya, and taking dozens of hostages including 2 other grandchildren, Sahar and Erez and their father, Ofer. More hostages were taken from Kibbutz Nir Oz than other Kibbutzim.
The two children, Sahar and Erez, were among those released in November but they yearned for release of their father. Erez turned 13 years two months ago and asked in a heart-rending speech, “How can I have my Bar Mitzvah without my father?”
But last week a miracle and the children cannot contain their emotions of relief. I spoke with my cousin Dor Dan, Ofer’s brother-in-law – who went to visit Ofer who was in hospital but was not allowed to see him. The doctors are very protective of the hostages… Only immediate family members were allowed to visit Ofer.
He was treated very badly in captivity – locked in a cage and beaten regularly with little food. The Israeli doctors are amazing in checking the hostages carefully making sure they will be okay re-entering society.
But good news! Yesterday, Ofer was released from Sheba Medical Centre.
Today is Shabbat Shira and our joy mingles with the joy of my family – but many of my cousins are not going to rest until all the hostages are released.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that my cousin Dor, is writing a Torah Scroll in memory of my cousin Carmela and Noya and all the residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz who were murdered on October 7th. This will be a sad but beautiful tribute to their memories!
Shabbat Shalom
The longest Israeli hostages held by Hamas are finally scheduled to be released. Let's celebrate the return, hopefully this week, of Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed, after years as hostages with barbaric Hamas operatives. Read here.

Even with its own refugee settlement agency, Palestinian Arabs are not really served but serve as tools against Israel.
Read article by Joe Adam George in National Post, about another Islamist speaker being invited to an Islamic conference in Canada. Mohammed Hijab, a known British Islamist activist was scheduled to speak at i3 Institute conference in Burlington, Ontario. This has raised lots of concerns given his hateful, antisemitic, homophobic, Hinduphobic views. The venue cancelled the event but will this conference, like one previously scheduled to be in person by a known Islamist group, just go on line?
