We Remember; International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance

The IHRA has issued an urgent warning that Holocaust distortion and denial are a threat to the remembrance of the history and veracity of the Holocaust, and undermine the significance of this 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. We must never forget and we must fight the trivialization and distortion. At this time of record high antisemitism, it is imperative to speak up, note that 16% of Holocaust-related content on social media is denying or distorting the Holocaust. This was reported by the IHRA central headquarters.

National Post and Royal Ontario Museum Bring Truth to High Level

Every day the national newspaper, National Post, features informative, accurate and diverse stories on the war waged by Israel against the terrorists in Gaza. Hamas is looking to still control Gaza, and is supported by Palestinian Islamic Jihad and in contest with the Palestinian Authority which is, unsurprisingly, in support of the October 7th massacre carried out by Hamas and PIJ. There are other factions but suffice it to say, that as long as they can resurrect themselves, the Gazan terrorists don’t care how many of their own people die, other than to use them as a story for the press.

Last week, Hamas shot and killed 11 Palestinian Arabs, some they suspected of collaborating with Israel, some for actually taking humanitarian aid that was be taken by Hamas for its own use; and others expressions of anti-Hamas sentiment. Clearly, the west, and the anti-Zionist clamoring protesters really don’t care about the Gazans, as they have ignored these ignoble acts.  Dead Gazans are only of interest if one can blame the Jews.

Read several stories in the National Post that feature the lives of Holocaust survivors

The Royal Ontario Museum unveiled a magnificent and well organized exhibit entitled, Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away. which confronts events leading up to the Holocaust, life in Auschwitz and life after Auschwitz. This is a not to be missed, multi-media presentation with a vast collection of artifacts and data showing the Nazi aspirations and their spread across many European countries. The exhibit also exposes the collaborators, acknowledges the rescuers, and the responses from Jews. This exhibit is a wonderful and valuable educational resource. The goal now is to get non-Jews, especially young people to visit the ROM.

CAEF has supported a motion to the Toronto District School Board, to encourage all teachers to visit the ROM, especially those assigned to teach the grade 6 or 10 courses that include the Holocaust. The students should also be guided there and the board itself should expend funds and resources to make it happen. However, at the January..board meeting, this motion was rejected.

CAEF has a discount code offered by the ROM to our friends and supporters. Anyone wishing to book a visit, may use this code to save 15% on the ticket price CAEF15.

FACT: Recent Canadian survey found 67% of students think the Holocaust is exaggerated.

Double Standards Always Applied to Jews

Jonathan Greenblatt in the Times of Israel, notes that despite the message of Holocaust Remembrance Day, antisemitism is rampant. It is coming from the extreme left and the extreme right.  He makes an important case of our failure to staunch it; we don’t know what is effective but we must improve what we are doing because it is not working.

“What enabled this genocide was, simply, antisemitism. Drawing on centuries of antisemitic beliefs and tropes, the Nazis weaponized it to put Jews at the center of a conspiracy that explained all of Germany’s and the world’s problems. When we say, ‘Never Again,’ about the Holocaust, we are committing ourselves to fight antisemitism wherever it is found.”

Yet, antisemitic incidents have exploded. The ADL study shows its global rise and its annual campus report card praises those campuses that are actually protecting Jewish students.

The ADL Global 100: Index of Antisemitism

Based on the sampling conducted by researches at the ADL “ 2.2 billion people or 46% of the world’s adult population, harbor antisemitic attitudes.” This is a doubling of people since the survey began a decade ago.

Read the survey, check the charts, understand that based on their 11 questions, respondents in 103 countries and territories, confirmed what Jews globally are feeling. This is worse than what we might have assessed preWWII as social media and other advances in technology, transportation, immigration etc have shrunk the world, and brought people together, often for benefit, but equally for harm. Disinformation, misinformation and campaigns of hate, have derailed the good that was expected in a more open world.

ADL concludes: “This shows how the fight against antisemitism requires countries to adopt and implement a whole-of-society strategy that involves all levels of government, corporations, academia, civil society and the public.”

CUPE Fakes Concern on Holocaust Remembrance

Aligning itself with antiZionists like Independent Jewish Voices, IJV, ensures that this major public service union will continue to undermine the fight against antisemitism. They are ignoring its major leftist and Islamist sources; thus pretending to remember the dead and honour the survivors of the Holocaust. We would be better off without their pretense. Let them stay away from Holocaust Remembrance events rather than spread their disinformation. IJV represents only a handful of Jews, or Jews in name only, sharing an office with the most viciously antiZionist organization CJPME, so hardly a reliable, responsible Jewish organization to quote. Here is how CUPE memorializes the Jews slaughtered in the Holocaust.

“In a world where, every day, we see the impacts of the rise of fascism, International Holocaust Remembrance Day reminds us, as union members, of our goal of building a world rooted in fairness, justice, and equality. We continue to rely every day on solidarity and collective action, both of which help us confront the forces that try to divert us from that goal.”

Note, they are seeing only a rise in fascism when the major source of Jew hatred today is leftist/Marxist/globalist hatred. The source of most attacks is not right wing, neo-Nazi or fascism, but according to data from the ADL (see above) is Islamic antisemitism.

Israel Swings for Gold

The premier of the documentary of Israel’s baseball team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics brings the country and the Jewish world much pride as well as amusement, and of course some disappointment at the lack of medal success. However, the film’s release shows a wonderful and poignant story of the team’s feisty wins to get to the Olympics, its experience with antisemitism and with the isolation that was the world games with no audience.

The Toronto audience watched with heartfelt pride knowing of this team’s resilience, and that all the footage was taken by the players themselves, then skillfully crafted into a well told story produced by Menemsha Films,

Watch Hillel Neuer on The Daily Wire, explain why UNRWA is perpetuating the war and must be dismantled. Israel has given UNRWA until January 30th to leave Israel, close its Jerusalem office and remove itself from providing services to Arabs in Israel, and presumably in Gaza, Judea and Samaria. It is unclear how humanitarian aid will be provided and it is unclear how Israel will enforce the removal of UNRWA, except in Jerusalem. Presumably, Israel will not cooperate with UNRWA which is in bed with Hamas, as proven multiple times since the war, and prior. UNRWA schools use texts which teach kids to hate and to kill Israelis and UNRWA summer camps have been training grounds for attacks, all of which played out on October 7, 2023.

CAEF Celebrates the success of our allies at CoHNA, the Coalition of Hindus of North America, which won a fight at Rutgers University, using data from the university’s  Social Perception Lab, and countering discrimination against Hindu and Indian students that has been growing rapidly in recent years.

CAEF is appreciative of the relationship that we and other Jewish NGOs have developed with CoHNA in our mutual fight to end hatred, discrimination and DEI.
